Monolith pt.V

Not sure where all this is going, but I'm liking the idea of unorthodox Matlock postcards... could be on sale in the art dungeon I plan to create in my cellar...

Monoliths

I'm feeling quite into monoliths, have done for a while... not real ones, but people, places and objects who think that they are monoliths- such delusion of grandeur never fails to amuse...

Here's one now...

...found on a dog walk over the football pitches.

'Bout time we had an image :)

Maybe this could inspire Bearfunkers aforementioned compositional geometrics..

Secret projects

Started work on Stevie's new project today- indulged myself in some studio time away from the domestic bliss. It's actually going to be a really nice project to work on, though whether it actually comes to fruition is something else entirely. At least it has inspired some urposeful scribbling, most of which involved nosing through the observers book of house plants for reference. Pencil wasn't working out, so 1 dog walk later, my head refreshed and soaked with the derbyshire drizzle, things started to come together. A workable strategy for composition still, however, eludes me, and my illustrations seem destined to float in voids a while longer,  poor things. Hand painted geometrics a la 70's mathematics text books seems the closest I have come to holding it all together.

Delicious washing up

Therapeutic. A clean side board. Bothering to do the drying up. The dog already walked, plates clanking with porcelain laughter into the cupboards. The gammon and pineapple was lovely. And even the random inclusion of maple syrup in the salad dressing. Wholesome, satisfying, complete, whole again.

Just a day or two later- life has begun again- tomorrow to be halted. This cyclism yet to lose its novelty of disdain and euphoria. No matter.

recovery

It has been such a long time. Christmas has been a fantastic time, much family- much celebration. Much empty headedness, void-filled creative vacuum, anxiety around the amount of time outside the studio. Ideas drifting in and out of the frontal lobes... the delusion of novelty bathing concepts in a flattering light until they have kicked arounf my brain long enough to lose their lustre... perhaps the hiatus between studio sessions has been useful after all. A notorious sucker for a new idea, and famously lazy at sticking with one, I have been kicking the same couple ideas around for the festive period. It's a good test of an idea to sit on it for a few weeks. The T-Shirt project has simmered on- my rants and ill-thought opinions worming their way onto a few designs but generally the novelty for this project has also kept its productivity to a grumbling low. The Truths project- a series of rambling explorations of a handful of universal truths inspired by the song 'trouble man' - has also gathered a bit of dust as well as momentum, depending on how you look at it...

There's only three things
That's for sho'
Taxes, death and trouble, h'oh!

...and during various dog walks, washing up's and other mindless chores I have been ruminating on the many possibilities for such a theme. I have even begun to gather some information from others, setting up a facebook page entitled "The Fact Is..." where folks can pen their own universal truths, statements and sentiments... that also will, I am sure, lose momentum and rot like the many other ongoing operations currently unfinished. Hopefully the results will be published via exhibitions, installations and the like. Possibly Wirksworth Festival, possibly some empty shop unit.
